About us
What is a community sauna?
There's a sauna renaissance happening across Scotland with a not-for-profit community sauna in Glasgow and one being developed in Inverness. Community can mean many things. For us, a community sauna is one that's open to the public, not-for-profit, and exists to serve the needs of the local population.
As a Community Interest Company and social enterprise, our surplus is reinvested in the sauna and in keeping it affordable. In practice, this means pricing structured to stay affordable rather than to maximise margin, alongside a model built around the needs of those who work in Edinburgh and those who call it home.
About the founder
Noelle Legrain started Edinburgh Community Sauna after a career in UK government digital transformation, much of it spent making public sector websites more accessible. She wanted to make a difference locally and feel more connected to her community, so Edinburgh Community Sauna was born. Originally from the Washington, DC area, she has called the UK home for the last 10 years. She lives in Edinburgh.
